Simba Public Campsite

Certainly not one of our favorites since like any public campsite in the parks, it can get very busy and rowdy at times. Nonetheless, Simba public campsite is without a doubt the best budget-friendly way of sleeping amongst the animals. Elephants, warthogs and buffalo’s, to name a few, regularly visit the camp, not deterred at all by the mirage of tents set-up around a colossal fig-tree.

Rhino Lodge

Rhino Lodge is ideally located on the edge of the Ngorongoro crater rim. Originally the home of Ngorongoro’s first conservator,  its developers have maintained the house’s original rustic, low-impact style and natural setting.

The lodge offers a perfect base from which to explore the Ngorongoro crater and its surroundings. Game drives into the crater, and, for the more adventurous, walking safaris in the forest reserve.

24 comfortable ensuite rooms with forest views, a cozy living space, friendly local staff and generous African-inspired meals offer guests a warm welcome home.

Olmoti Crater Special Camp and Empakai Special Camp

Both special camps listed are located in the NCA, with – as it typical for special camps – no facilities except for pure, untamed bush. For those heading off on a crater highland trek both special camps will be visited. They offer unberlievable views over the crater highlands, with Empakai giving great views into the crater itself.

Ngorongoro Simba-B Special Camp

Again, with it being a Special Camp, this is merely a peace of prime bushland where all facilities will be brought in by your supply car. But what a location it offers, on top of the crater rim, with prime views into the world renowned Ngorongoro Crater itself! A perfect spot to camp using our Mobile Fly-Camping setup.

Olduvai Tented Camp

About half-way between the Ngorogoro Crater rim and Ndutu, Olduvai Camp stands at the base of a kopje on the southern edge of the Serengeti. A sister-camp to Mawe Ninga in Tarangire, it’s run by Maasai and has 16 simple walk-in tents, built on concrete bases with thatched roofs. Each has twin beds, an en-suite chemical toilet and a canvas shower (water supplied on request).

Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge

A slightly dated safari-lodge but its impressive views make up for this minor detail. Situated on the rim of an ancient collapsed volcano, this lodge offers guests uninterrupted views of the Ngorongoro crater, a true remaining natural wonder.

The Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge offers 71 standard rooms and 4 suites, all of which look onto the Crater. The evenings on the crater rim can be cool as altitude here is 2200mtrs rooms have built in heaters; all are en-suite with bathroom and shower attachments. Third bed available on request.

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge

Perched on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, this lodge has magnificent views over the crater floor, which is home to vast herds of buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, the rare and endangered black rhino, elephant, cheetah, leopard, lion and herds of gazelle and wildebeest. Its position on the Eastern rim allows the most spectacular and uninterrupted views of the sunset.

All of the 91 double bedrooms are very spacious and each two queen sized beds and a separate dressing area. Each room has a glass fronted verandah, where you may enjoy a private view of the Crater The lodge has 6 single rooms, all of which have a queen sized beds and glass fronted sliding doors.

The restaurant is in the shape of a rondvale, has a high roof and large glass windows to view the crater. From the inside the ceiling resembles the inside of an umberella. The menus offer good choice and at dinner you will have the opportunity to try a traditional African dish.

AndBeyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge

The andBeyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge consists of three adjacent, glamorous camps with 30 fairytale Maasai-inspired suites perched on stilts on the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater.

From the outside, the lodge resembles a theme straight out of “Lord of the rings” a magical setting on the edge of the world. Each stone and thatch suite has un-obscured spectacular views of the crater. At the end of a day’s game drive of the famous Ngorongoro crater return to a hot steaming bath.

Each suite is discreetly tended by a personal butler who will bring you tea in bed and stoke your fireplace.

Ngorongoro Serena

This unique property of the Serena chain is perched on the jagged rim of the crater, designed in a way to blend in with it’s natural surroundings. Sensitively constructed so as to take nothing from its environment.

Most of the 75 guest rooms offer excellent views to the crater floor some 600 meters below. Rooms are centrally heated and all have en-suite shower facilities they are laid out on two levels in long lines along the crater rim. The whole hotel is decorated with hand-painted cave-type illustrations and styled throughout.

The dining room and bar are warm and inviting, with crackling wood fires in each, and the menu is both delicious and extensive, incorporating at least four courses. Cultural performances such as Masai dancing, and celebratory presentations.

Lemala Tented Camp

Lemala Ngorongoro is an intimate, seasonal camp set in a delightful, ancient acacia forest on the rim of the crater next to the quiet Lemala access route. The camp offers accommodation under canvas in only 8 luxury tents (accommodating 16 to 20 guests) and 1 family tent (accommodating 4 to 5 guests), which ensures seclusion in a pristine forest environment.

Each spacious tent is fitted with a gas heater, large single or king-size beds with warm duvets, wooden flooring with rugs, 24-hour solar lighting, en-suite bathrooms with a dressing area, flush toilet and a large safari shower. House alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and laundry are included.

The mess tent is beautifully furnished with grand sofas, lamps, book shelves and corner cabinets in old wood, chests and rugs. In the evening, guests gather around the campfire for sundowners before dining under chandeliers, which is hosted by the camp manager. The camp works closely with the local Masai community who often provide dances and talks on Masai life, their cultures, traditions and ceremonies. Guests enjoy the opportunity to interact with the Masai, learning more about their traditional lifestyles.
