For the 1st – 3 days you are completely on your own in the lush rain forest, this eventually breaks out alpine scrub dotted with huge clusters of ‘Senecio Kilimanjaro’ towering at 5 meters – continue up to Baranco High Camp, at this point Umbwe route joins onto the Machame trail that continues to skirt around to Barafu ready for the summit attempt.
