Certainly the most relaxed, scenic and uncluttered open routes that Kilimanjaro has to offer, several days again heading up through afromontane forests of the lower slopes breaking out into open vista of Shira Plateau.
A route that holds the note as being the steepest route on Kilimanjaro!! However a Bush 2 Beach favorite as scenery in our eyes is far more dramatic than that of Machame with far more extremes, certainly a route to be considered by the more adventurous groups, extreme bush walker who likes a challenge or two but once again strictly not technical but a little excitement with several rock scrambles to break up the day of following picturesque mystical meandering paths that cut through afromontane forest covered in old man’s beard, a form of hanging moss.
The Marangu Route is the only route up Mount Kilimanjaro were you‘ll sleep in Mountain huts instead of tents and the only route that takes the same route up as it does down, usually in a total of 6 days.

As the popularity of Kilimanjaro has grown over the years, alternative routes were established and Machame has undoubtedly pulled perhaps the more adventurous climbers away from the popular Marangu route. The Machame is rated amongst the most scenic route on the mountain offering designated camping spots in logistically placed locations making trekking times and altitude gain do-able to all ages with good levels of fitness.
