Rubondo Island National Park, tucked in the South-Western corner of Lake Victoria offers photographic safaris, nature walks, forest walks, chimp tracking and fishing. The area is a mix of fish breeding grounds, humid forest, grassland amd lakeside.

Accommodation is offered by one luxury tented camp, park bandas and a campsite. World record Nile Perch, some weighing more than 100kg, tempt recreational game fishermen.

Features

The shaggy-coated aquatic sitatunga antelope – Flocks of African grey parrots – released onto the island after they were confiscated from illegal exporters. Malachite kingfisher, paradise flycatcher, herons, storks and spoonbills, supplemented by thousands of Eurasian migrants during the northern winter. Yellow-spotted otters, Nile perch, hippo, vervet monkey, genet and mongoose – share their protected habitat with introduced species such as chimpanzee, black-and-white colobus, elephant and giraffe.
