After the short rains of November and December, every new year kicks off with the spectacle of the Great Wildebeest Migration in full numbers in the now-green area of South-Serengeti and Ndutu. This is calving season, where up to 80% of female wildebeest give birth and predators are never far away.
Join this spectacle with a short and very affordable safari combining two days of exploration of that other gem, Tarangire National Park with three full days among the migration in the Serengeti and a full day of game-drives in the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater.
Using comfortable lodging in Tarangire and our special Mobile Fly-Camping setup at a private camp in Serengeti, you are as close to nature as you can possibly get.
The inclusion of a special (private) camp in the Serengeti means availability is limited but we have been able to secure a number of nights, allowing us to offer this special:

The Great Migration has started – book now to reserve some of the last accommodation in the middle of the moving masses. February is not too far away in the scheme of things and a lot of accommodation is already full. January, February and early March are prime game viewing in the Ndutu area bordering the famous Serengeti plains. This is where the action takes place with thousands upon thousands of Wildebeest massing on the open plains for breeding.
We have put together an exciting photographic safari that covers ‘The best of the Northern safari circuit’.
Visit Lake Manyara as a subtle introduction to Tanzania’s fine National Park with much resident wildlife, excellent birding and a healthy population of primates, finish off the day with song and dance and grass roots cultural experiences with an overnight stop amongst the Maasai of Esilalei. Sit back in the comforts of the tented bush camp overlooking Lake Manyara to melting sunsets.
We then take you off the beaten track following The Great Rift Valley wall through an ancient volcanic landscape to Lake Natron the breeding grounds of the lesser east African Flamingo, all in the shadows of Oldoinyo Lengai – The Mountain of the Gods. Natron allows for one to immerse in the wilderness location with relaxed walks, lake visits and the most invigorating power shower possible by visiting the series of waterfalls close by. Next stop Serengeti bound entering the very north of the eco system, one overnight stop to explore the local area then dropping into the heart of Serengeti to conduct game drives at your leisure, wildlife viewing will be extreme and the camps and lodges selected varying, comfortable and welcoming after your time spent out during game viewing.
Next but last stop is Ndutu itself, located in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Already you would have come across the great migration whilst travelling through Serengeti but the biggest concentration of wildebeest will be in and around Ndutu, Lake Masek. Accommodation is limited but we do have certain nights available to date at a comfortable seasonal tented camp which will be in the centre of the action, do not miss this opportunity to be amongst it for several days roaming freely with your driver guide.
When you thought the action could not get any better we have added in an exciting private semi lux fly camp for you close to the Ngorongoro crater itself. Two nights will be spent at this private special camp location taking in the famous Ngorongoro crater in one day of full game drives of the crater floor followed by a guided crater rim walk and a seldom side trip by vehicle to visit Empakai crater. Here you will drop by foot with a NCAA ranger to the lake shore cutting through lush wild forests, Empakai being part of the ancient chain of volcanoes that make up the Crater highlands walking safari leading through to Lake Natron.
Return to Arusha with your final hours spent at the relaxing Lake Duluti before continuing through to JRO (Kilimanjaro International Airport) to connect with international flights.
Please note that commencement dates of this safari are limited due to availability of the Ndutu accommodation.

“Free your mind, body and soul as you head to the roof top of Africa…
Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, reaching a height of 5,895 meters or 19,341 foot above sea level. On clear days her snow capped peaks can be seen from different vantage points from Arusha and Moshi.
For those wishing to tackle Mt Kilimanjaro’s dizzying heights there are several options open with each route having a different character; suitable in accordance to age, fitness level, prior experience as to climbing & trekking in general and at altitude, and – at the end of the day – just what you would like to experience out of your climb of Mount Kilimanjaro.
From personal experience and from those climbers who have stepped forth and tried, the overall feeling is that it is one of the hardest, most satisfying personal quest that most have attempted in their lives.
Whether reaching the summit or not, the journey that you will undertake will certainly be physical and emotional; the key to summiting Kilimanjaro being a strong positive focused mental attitude, good friends, a loved one and of course your experienced Bush2Beach Kili-Crew literally right behind you every step, shuffle, slip, slide of the way.
Each route is described below in brief along with full day to day itineraries of how the climb will unfold; no matter which route you choose though, the aim is to succesfully make it to the roof-top of Africa. To maximize your chances, preparation is essential.

An essential part of making it to the top is to arrive prepared, with the right clothing and medical items. To help you do this, we have put together a page listing the items to pack and pointers for a successful climb. Please contact us with any inquiries and questions concerning these; most items are also available for rent.
In the few days before commencing your climb you get to meet your guide(s) who will go through a thorough gear check and climbing safety brief at our offices or the hotel/lodge. This will allow you to ask all unanswered questions, fears and doubts before commencing the climb so that when you do actually put a toe at the park gate all uncertainty will be stored somewhere in the back of your thoughts allowing only positive feelings and a familiarization toward your guide who is going to become your best friend over the next 7 – 9 days.
It is an important factor to have trust and confidence in your guide as when the going gets tough he will be the best person to lean on (literally).
If you are considering a climb-only option then we recommend that you try and allow at least 2 days before heading up the mountain to settle in and slowly begin the acclimatization process; staying in Arusha – set at the base of Mount Meru (Tanzania’s second highest mountain at 4566m), at an altitude of around 1450 meters depending where you lay your head, allows for this.
We can also arrange an acclimatization / cultural trek in the foot hills of Mount Meru, allowing you to reach heights of close to 2000 metres and further forming a relationship with your guide who will do his upmost and foremost to deliver you safely to ‘The roof-top of Africa’, the highest free standing mountain in the world.

If you are looking to combine your climb of Mount Kilimanjaro with Tanzania’s wild-life and cultural insights during your time spent in our country we recommend that you head out on safari first as this offers several benefits.
You will slowly begin to adjust to altitude as already mentioned; by visiting the Ngorongoro Crater you reach heights of 2300 metres above sea level. In light of a request to head out on a Wildlife safari combined with a Kilimanjaro climb we will design the safari accordingly, spending a night on the Ngorongoro Crater rim and, depending on the way the itinerary works, possibly walk or trek in either direction arriving or leaving the Ngorongoro rim itself.
The Ngorongoro forest walk is fairly strenuous if heading up hill out of Karatu highlands but will put you in good step for what awaits on Kilimanjaro along with it being an exciting walk in itself with great opportunities to come across many forest dwellers, including elephant, buffalo and once reaching the higher open plains then Zebra and other plains games wildlife are common, making it a unique experience to be on ground level as opposed to the constraints of a safari vehicle.
On the following pages you can find information in brief as to varying climbing routes that Bush 2 Beach offer – if you have any special requirements, interest and cannot find the information then please contact us direct.

A 19 day safari with a difference aimed at the active explorer who is interested in more then just the most famous national parks. A slow pace, alternating exiting game-drives from your private 4×4 with walking, canoeing and (optional) balloon safaris.
End each day reflecting on the new experiences in the comfort of quality Tented Camps and lodges at the most amazing – hidden away locations.
I’d been longing to see something a bit different, and Chris Pilley and Ingrid Vaes of Bush2Beach Safaris had met the challenge by arranging an itinerary that included some lesser-known destinations. Joining me would be John, my Tanzanian guide and driver. With 15 years wildlife-spotting experience under his belt, I knew I was in good hands.

Explore the ancient Usambara mountain forest, experience West-Kilimanjaro Private Ranch and the little known Mkomazi National park, more then once you will feel alone with nature. Overall Rating: Excellent. We would recommend going to Tanzania and Zanzibar in a heartbeat. East Africa is a beautiful part of the world with incredible people and an amazing culture.
Operator: Bush to Beach Safari in Arusha, Tanzania, owned by Chris Pilley and Ingrid Vaes. Chris and Ingrid are wonderful people who couldn’t have been any easier to work with on our trip.
After evaluating Micato and Abercrombie and Kent Safari’s, who Valerie Wilson Travel had suggested, we decided on a recommendation from a friend of ours to use Bush 2 Beach Safari’s (B2B) instead. B2B provided a private 10 day safari to Tanzania plus a 5 day stay on Zanzibar at a significant savings.
We took a trip that we created, not a pre-packaged tour that the other companies provide, with all the added amenities that we wanted for a truly amazing honeymoon. Aimee was spot on about using B2B!
Date of Trip: Left NYC on Friday, August 20, 2010 and returned on Saturday, September 4, 2010 via Amsterdam. The weather during our Safari was in the mid 80’s (F), it was very dry, mosquitos/ tsetse flies weren’t an issue and the parks weren’t crowded at all. While we didn’t get to see the migration, August is a perfect time to go.
Guide: Simon Kimar0 – excellent (historian, botanist, geographer, animal spotter, and interpreter) assisted by James Mollel (Camp Manager), Valence (Chef) and Matthew (Camp Crew). They treated us like family and not clients during our Safari. We were sorry to have to say goodbye to them!
Places that we visited (in order): Tengeru (we found the Polish Refugee Camp that my wife’s Great Grandparents were sent to during World War II from 1942-1948. Elizabeth’s grandmother’s two youngest brothers were born there), Arusha National Park, Mt. Meru, Lake Momella, Ndarakwai Private Ranch, Esilalei Maasai Community (which is sponsored by B2B), Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara, Karatu, the Ngorongoro Crater, Olduvai Gorge (Cradle of Mankind), the Seregenti and finally Zanzibar (the east coast and Stone Town).
Vehicle: private 4×4 w/pop up roof
Places that we stayed at (in order): the Onsea House in Arusha (a great B&B-Alex the owner and chef was very welcoming), the Ndarakwai Private Ranch (a B2B semi-luxury portable tented camp), the Tarangire Safari Lodge in the Tarangire National Park (a permanent tented camp-Honeymoon Suite), the Plantation Lodge in Karatu (Honeymoon Suite-our 2nd favorite lodge-amazing food and really nice owners/staff), the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge on the rim of the Crater (the hotel is a bit dated and has limited hot water, but had an incredible view and sunset, they went out of their way for our honeymoon when we arrived!), and the Mbalegeti Lodge in the Serengeti (our favorite lodge in Tanzania and a world class resort. Our raised tented chalet with a hot tub on our deck was amazing, the food was incredible and the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating).
Our longest stay of the trip was at the Shooting Star Resort on the east coast of Zanzibar. Our 3 story villa overlooking the Indian Ocean was one of the nicest places we have ever stayed in. We highly recommend this resort-the only drawback is the limited ocean swimming in front of the property due to the coral reefs and very low tides. The last night of our trip we stayed at the legendary 236 Hurumzi in the old Stone Town, Zanzibar. The superbly decorated suite on the top floor, that we stayed in, had an amazing view of the city.
Highlights of our trip (in order): 1.) The first time the two of us travelled to Amsterdam, Africa and the Indian Ocean, 2.) Interviewing Joseph for 45 minutes about being the first Tanzanian in 1942 to greet the initial 80 Polish Refugees to Tengeru and him remembering Elizabeth’s Great Grandfather who wore an eye patch-its’ what movies are made of, 3.) Doing a walking safari in the Arusha National Park with Rahema, who is one of only 2 female rangers in Tanzania, 4.) My wife went camping for the first time, 5.) Doing a walking safari through a watering hole/feeding area with two orphaned elephants, Nkarsis and Riziki, in the Ndarakwai Private Reserve, 6.) Going to the Esilalei Maasai Village and visiting with a family in their Boma, taking a medicine walk with a Maasai warrior, visiting the school house and ending with some traditional Maasai songs and dance-a truly inspirational experience, 7.) Taking a 2 hr Hot Air Balloon ride in the Tarangire National Park, 8.) Visiting the Hippo Pool at Lake Manyara, 8.) Simon locating 2 Rhinos in the Ngorongoro Crater, 9.) Seeing a female cheetah and her (4) cubs on the prowl, a pride of (4) female lions and (5) cubs trying to shade themselves from the afternoon sun, a pack of over 45 elephants heading to the watering hole and thousands and thousands of zebras and wildebeest on the move in the Serengeti, 10.) Sitting in the co-pilots seat to Zanzibar and flying over all the national parks we had visited the 10 days earlier-nothing like flying eye level with the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro!, 11.) Visiting Zanzibar, a Muslim country, during Ramadan, 12.) Stopping by the Mercury Bar in Stone Town, named after the late rock and roll singer Freddie Mercury from the band Queen, whose father was an accountant there for the British Government, and finally 13.) Meeting wonderful people from Bush 2 Beach Safaris and from around the world. We now have a lifetime of memories, 1,800 pictures and 12 hours of video from our honeymoon.
Disappointments from the trip: Not seeing any leopards and having to leave Tanzania and Zanzibar!
Recommendations for a trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar: 1.) Do your homework on the various Safari and Tour companies out there and find out which one best fits your plans and budget, 2.) Plan at least 12 months before you want to go on your trip, 3.) Make sure you have trip insurance and Emergency Evacuation Coverage. Check with your tour company on the type of coverage they provide-you don’t want to be without the right coverage but you also don’t want to pay twice for the same protection 4.) Check with your tour company on the various local projects (schools, wells, healthcare) that they support and bring additional money if you want to support these causes. Alternatively you can ask about what type of supplies these charities could use (notebooks, pens/pencils, clothes/shoes) and bring them with you, 5.) Make sure the Tour company supplies you with a list of items to bring with you (rain gear, hat, glasses, camera’s with very long lenses, binocular’s, sun screen, bug spray, toiletries, malaria pills, etc), 6.) Insist on shopping where the locals shop and not outside the National Parks and learn the art of haggling because everything is negotiable!, 7.) Buy some books about Tanzania a few months before your trip that has maps and dictionaries in them. Try and learn a little about the various tribes (over 120) and their cultures and some basic Swahili before you leave. Tanzanians love it when you try and speak their language!
I hope this information will be helpful in planning your next trip to Tanzania or Zanzibar. Elizabeth and I can’t wait for our next trip back to the Rift Valley with Bush to Beach Safari’s and I know that if you decide to use B2B for your honeymoon or family vacation that Chris, Ingrid, Niels, Simon, James, Vallance, Matthew and the rest of the team will make sure that you have an amazing experience as well.
