  • Local currency can be pulled from 24hr ATM machines in Arusha, Dar-es-Salaam and Mto-wa-Mbu – most common is Visa. However, it is  best not to completely rely on this since flaky communication means frequent outages. Limits per day ranging from $300 – $800 per 24hr period given in local currency.
  • Travelers cheques can take a long time to get your cash with long queue’s and processing, passport, receipts need to be produced and most have a limit of $200 a day which will be given in local currency.
  • Bring in large dollar bills for changing into local currency at “bureau de change” and small bills for tipping at lodges. Please note that if you need $ U.S Dollars you will need to buy them back at a poor rate using TZ currency, so best keep some dollars as well.
