Michael Simon Shaban was born and raised in the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro and it was therefore a natural development that he started his working career as a porter more than 15 years ago.
Just working as a porter however wasn’t enough for Michael and therefore joined college and started training to become a professional mountain guide. Michael got his guiding certificate in 2012 and has been up and down Mt. Kilimanjaro and other mountains with many happy guests.
Michael speaks fluent English, Swahili and a bit of French and German which he is still learning while working and interacting with his guests from all over the world. Michael is a born leader and often leads trip of 25+ guest meaning 150 crew members but also a very pleasant person to spend time with when climbing in a smaller group.
During his free time Michael enjoys jogging, yoga and meditation and as a responsible father of three kids he likes to spend time with them and proudly takes them to church whenever he can.
When not climbing or spending time with his family, Michael attends his small farm where grows potatoes, vegetables and corn.
